The museum

This museum retraces the history of the French Cavalry from 1445, the date of the creation of the Compagnies d'Ordinance by Charles VII, to the present day.

Based on the battles where the cavalry distinguished itself, the Cavalry Museum presents a historical discourse respecting the chronology of the History of France. It provides a better understanding of the main tactical and technical developments of this weapon in each period of our history.

On 1400 m², six centuries of French military history are evoked by numerous models, objects, uniforms, weapons, standards, pennants... representative of the Cavalry and then the French Armored Arms.

The ensemble is completed by a few stalls from the old stables of the Cadre Noir which bear witness to the building's past. The Museum also includes a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions as well as a documentation center with 18000 books that can be consulted by appointment.
